Hiring home help in New Town
New Town is a newer planned township of high-rise complexes. Hiring here works the way it does across Kolkata: someone in the building knows someone, a number gets passed along, and a stranger starts work on Monday with nothing checked and nothing written down.
Whether you find someone through the building, a broker or here, the same three things decide whether it lasts: can they reach New Town at the same time every day, do you actually agree on the work, and is any of it written down. In Kolkata the everyday phrase is kajer lok, Bengali for "the person who does the work": in English, a house help or maid. Sevetu handles the third, and shows you an ID-verified profile before the first conversation.
What hiring in New Town is actually like
New Town is a newer planned township of high-rise complexes, and in this kind of area the complex matters more than the address. A helper with a pass for one gate does not have one for the next, so people tend to work inside a single community and stay there. If you have just moved in, the family two floors up is a shorter route to help than any wider search.
It is also why the going rate can differ between two complexes a few hundred metres apart. Find out what your own society already pays before you negotiate. It will tell you more than any figure for Kolkata as a whole.
Either way, name the part of New Town you are in. New Town borders Salt Lake, Rajarhat and Baguiati, and a helper's willingness to take the job usually comes down to which side of it you are on.

The practical part
Verification
Sevetu runs an Aadhaar-based identity (KYC) check. It is not a police check, and we will never call it one. Kolkata Police runs the Domestic Help profile form, through the Bondhu citizen portal and app if you want one. How to arrange it in Kolkata →
What it costs
No commission, from either side. We publish no salary table for New Town: pay for domestic work settles street by street, and a number we invented would only mislead you.
Coverage

Frequently asked questions
Post the job with New Town as your locality rather than just "Kolkata", and add the part of it you are in. Helpers here work a tight radius. Most of the people who will apply already work Salt Lake, Rajarhat or the streets between. Fewer applicants, far more who can actually reach you.
New Town borders Salt Lake, Rajarhat, Baguiati, Chinar Park. Helpers commonly work across two or three adjacent areas, so saying in your post that you are flexible about which side someone comes from will widen the response more than raising the pay does.
New Town is a newer planned township of high-rise complexes. That decides the practical things: who is nearby, how they get to you, and whether the going rate is set by a society chart or by what the street pays.
Create a free profile in the Sevetu app, set New Town as your area, and apply to the jobs families nearby post. There is no fee, no agent and no commission: you agree the pay with the family directly and keep all of it.
Mostly some combination of Bengali, Hindi and English. Applicants list theirs, and it is worth filtering on: a household where instructions land first time is the one where the arrangement lasts.
