Short answer
For a maid, cook, nanny, japa, caretaker or driver job in a family's home, use an app built for household work: Sevetu, Helper4U, BookMyBai, EzyHelpers or Jobnukkad. Each says it is free for workers. Use the big job apps such as apna, WorkIndia or Jobhai if you want company work instead, like a hotel kitchen, an office or a delivery job. Whatever app you use, never pay money to get a job.
Every app below was checked on its own pages on 9 October 2026.
The big job apps: mostly company work
These apps are large and useful, but most of what they list is company work.
- Jobhai says applying is free and that it does not support any recruiter who asks job seekers for money.1 You call the company's HR from the app during working hours.
- Quikr Jobs has a free basic plan with 30 applications a month, and sells a VIP plan for workers at ₹99 a month with unlimited applications and recruiter phone numbers.2
- apna, WorkIndia, OLX and Indeed list thousands of driver, cook and housekeeping openings, but when we looked, the housekeeping and maid listings were mostly from companies, hotels and service firms, not families.
If you want a hotel kitchen, a cab, an office or a cleaning company job with a fixed shift, these are the right place. If you want to work in one family's home near where you live, look at the next list.
Household job apps: jobs in family homes
These apps are built for work inside homes. Each one says on its own pages that the worker pays nothing.
- Sevetu. Free to join and apply, and free for families to post a job and hire, with no commission on either side. Make a profile with your area, work and hours, complete a one-time identity (KYC) check for the Verified badge, and apply directly to families hiring near you. You agree the pay yourself and keep all of it, and the terms go into a free digital work agreement. See household jobs →
- Helper4U. Says in Hinglish that it is free for helpers and takes no money for registration or interviews.3 Families buy a hiring package.
- BookMyBai. Says registration for job seekers is 100% free, with no commission, and lists Hindi, Marathi and Bengali among its languages.4 It is an agency, so families pay it a fee.
- EzyHelpers. Says ₹0 registration or placement fees and that it never takes anything from your salary.5
- Jobnukkad. Says there is no charge for getting you a job, registration takes 15 seconds, and you can apply by calling if you do not have a smartphone.6
- Babysits, for babysitting work. Babysitters use it free and keep 100% of what they earn.7
The difference between them is who pays the app. Agencies and pay-for-contacts services charge the family; on Sevetu neither side pays a fee to hire or be hired. That matters to you because a family that paid an agency a month's salary often expects the agency, not you, to fix problems.
Fees you should never pay
Agents and middlemen have long been the usual route into household work, alongside family and neighbours. A study of domestic and care work in India describes placement agencies that take heavy commissions from workers and hold back wages.8 EzyHelpers puts a local agent's cut at 15 to 30 days of salary.5
None of that is needed now. Do not pay for:
- Registration or "form" fees. Every household app above says registration is free.
- A job "guarantee" or deposit. A real family pays you; you do not pay them.
- Keeping your original documents. Show your Aadhaar, give a copy if asked, and keep the original yourself.
If someone claiming to be from any app asks you for money, report it to that app and do not pay.
Government options
- e-Shram is a government register for unorganised workers, including domestic workers. It is not a job board, but it gives you a permanent number linked to welfare schemes. How to get an e-Shram card →
- National Career Service (ncs.gov.in) says it charges no fee at any stage, and its helpline is 1514.9 Most of its listings are company jobs.
